Jesuit Garden (LFL11)

Site: Jesuit Garden, Beirut, Lebanon
Timeline: opened November 2023
Team: Manal Kahale
Local Partner: Beit el Baraka
CONTEXT

Beirut is a world-famous, historic city full of beautiful architecture — from ancient temple ruins to traditional, triple-arcade homes to contemporary high-rises. One thing it is sorely lacking are green spaces, so local NGO Beit el Baraka undertook the renovation of the neglected Jesuit Garden in Rmeil district to give residents a safe, clean space for recreation.
PROCESS
We met with Beit el Baraka to understand the scope of the renovation and for a walk-through of the park. Then together we mapped out our soft canopy tree lighting design that their volunteers would help us to install, so that the newly revitalized park can also be enjoyed after sunset.
Their volunteers helped us conduct some on-site mock-ups to test our floodlight installation design. You can see the difference with and without our tree lighting.
PROJECT

The trees have been transformed into magical lanterns, and now the local residents can enjoy the park after sunset!
