Maasser el Shouf Phase 1 complete!

July 31, 2025

Maasser el Shouf lies at the foot of Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve, a UNESCO biosphere reserve in southern Lebanon. This historic village has distinct, traditional houses with red-tiled roofs, Roman ruins, and olive presses (from which the name of the village is derived).

In Phase 1 we illuminated central Maasser Place around the historic well. This is where the main events of the village take place – now village life doesn’t have to stop at sunset!

We partnered with local NGO Jabalna for this important project. This project faced many challenges, the largest of which was when war broke out in southern Lebanon and we couldn’t go on site to complete installation. But now Phase 1 is complete and we hope to be able to start Phase 2 soon. If you are able to help fund Phase 2, please go to our donations page.
